Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

Have pending small claims (Iowa). Collector sued on debt he bought from Cap 1. Debt does not have signed proof of liability from original card agreement, if one exists. Deny of claim filed with court clerk, hearing date set. Then creditor called asking if Defendant wanted to settle- refused. QUESTION is - does he have anything? seems he is on a money hunt only. At hearing will i just need to deny claim is valid and note there is no proof of liability?
