pymt not made to subcontractor

I was hired as a subcontractor to side a house, from another company that was hired to do the job. Job was completed with 95hours worked, Time was written down each day as the job started and when it was completed. Hours added up to 95hrs. The Company that hired the ( me) subcontractor, stated they do not believe it took 95 hours and want to take off 15 hrs and only pay for 80hrs. We believe they under bid the job and now they cannnot pay me, becasue they do not have the money. What recourse do I have to receive the money that is due to me. ( not sure if credit, Debit, Collections law is the correct area )?

There are a few options. Try to reach some agreement with the contractor, sue the contractor, put a mechanic's lien against the owner's house. Be careful with this last one--it must be done correctly, and you better be right about what you are owed. If you are not, it could be construed as a slander of title case.
