Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa
We received a call from The Law Office of Gary Feldman, Esquire stating that we owed money on a debt from 1997 that has already charged off. The debt was a written contract and we are thinking that we already paid this off with a consolidation loan years ago, but we can't track down the paperwork. We live in Iowa, is there a statue of limitations. What do you recommend we do, this agency is threatening us and very rude.

I would hire your own attorney, one who is familiar with the FDCPA. When was your last payment made on this account?
Based on the information you have provided, these folks may have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I would suggest contacting an attorney to discuss the specifics of your situation. Be sure to log all telephone calls, noting the date, time, names, what was discussed, etc., and retain all documents they have sent you.
