Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

I received a Small Claims judgement from a collector. It says its in regards to a Citibank debt that I owe $3600.00 to. I dont know of any Citibank debt and I haven't rec'd any contact from anyone about one until these papers were served to me. What can I do about this? I dont want this to show up on my credit as a judgment as I am trying to buy a house. How can I stop this from damaging my credit? It says I can deny the claim and have a hearing. What should I do?

If it's a small claims notice you can deny the claim and go to trial. If it is a judgment, then the process is over.

It's probably already on your credit. I would go ahead and get a free credit report and see what it says.

You can do that here https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp at no charge.

Debtor creditor litigation is very fact specific. There is probably some reason why they're going after you. Right or wrong you'll have to get to the bottom of it pronto. I suggest you hire an attorney to review this case and see if there's anything to be done about it.
