Re: 2nd degree theft in Iowa
Theft second is a class D felony that is punishable by up to five years' imprisonment if that's what you're ultimately convicted of. The charge may often be reduced if you agree to plead guilty. As a first time offender you may also be eligible for a deferred judgment. Typically, if someone is sentenced to prison on a Clas D felony they usually end up doing about 8 months. Most often a first offense will net probation and a stiff fine. What you need to do now is to hire yourself a competent attorney to represent your interests and get you through the process with the least amount of battle damage.
