Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

My 3 step children were beaten by their real father. It was a traumatic experience to be interviewed by the police and have their bruising photographed. They have not seen their father in over a month and now they must be deposed in front of him. They are very scared of him and he easily manipulates them and has for years. I am worried that they will not tell the whole truth during the deposition while he is sitting across the table from them. I have a feeling his lawyer is doing this to see if they will crack. Is their any way to avoid his presence?

You should express your concerns to the County Attorney that is prosecuting the case. You could also request that the Court appoint an attorney to act as guardian ad litem for the children.
