Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
My 19 year old son helped a friend roll up a large rug with a High School mascot imprint on it, and allowed his friend to put the rug in his car. The were later charged with theft 2nd degree because the rug was $1095. His friend settled out of court with a misdemeanor, civil penalty waved, 12 months unsupervised probation, and restitution of half the rug cost. My son is still fight to get the felony charge brought down. Is it because he is white and his friend is Hispanic?

I'm not sure how to answer that. Maybe your son ought to try and get a deal or listen to his attorney because if there was a deal in the works they'd probably have presented it to him.
