Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

My 20 year old son works for an anemometry company and was on a crew headed to Eagle Butte So. Dak. He was driving as the crew leader with the CDL license had a suspended license. They were driving a pickup hauling a trailer. Prior to leaving the headquarters they were supposed to leave in a different truck and he inadvertantly left his backpack with his logbook in that truck. They did not stop at a weigh station just inside So Dak and got pulled over. The officer asked if he could go through their things. They said yes. My son had an unopened bottle of apple pucker in his suitcase, the guy with the suspended license had a pipe with no drugs. The officer went through my sons wallet and found a fake ID that someone had made for him when he was in college. The next thing my son knew he and his other crew member were being handcuffed and arrested. My son got 3 tickets. No CDL license, MIP, Fake ID...4 warnings. No logbook, drivning cargo(it was company equipment that was going to be erected not for sale) over state lines and being under 21, having alcohol in a company vehicle, and being in a vehicle with alcohol and being under 21. What will this do his record and should we hire a lawyer?

The important things in this story are 1) yes, you should hire a lawyer immediately and 2) they consented to the search. Having a false ID is a serious business.
