Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

I am 14 years old and I am being charged with trespassing as a misdemeanor. This is the story:

I was at a all-night walk for cancer at my local high school. My friends and I were playing Hide-and-go-seek in the school lunchroom. We decided to expand to the Workshop so we could have more hiding space. I offered to open up the door by going through a fire-escape window in my old classroom and opening the door from the outside. After I completed that, I ran into a supervisor who told me that I was in trouble. The next day, the principle decided to charge me with trespassing, which baffled me.

~What can I do?

~What can they do?

~What are my rights?

Thank-you

I am assuming you are being referred to the juvenile court officer. It will then be their decision whether to handle the matter informally (file no charge) or formally (file a charge). You have the right to have an attorney and to have your parents participate in the process. It is often a team process to resolve the matter in the juvenile's best interests.
