Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

I was arrest for first offense marijuana use on august 18th at 1:13 pm, the police came to my door (undercover) and my girlfriend let them in. The marijuana was not ours, however the neighbor filed a complaint to the police office and the police came to our apartment, on suspicion and complaint, never nonetheless we were taken to jail on a 1/2 gram of marijuana that my girlfriends friend left the night before what's going to happen for us to court, we have no idea what to do, we've lost everything in our lives due to this horrible matter, including student loans, jobs, aparment, we are now homeless and desperately panicking.

You should retain the services of an attorney immediately. You can either privately retain an attorney or you may qualify for a court-appointed attorney. There may be several issues in your case, including an unconstitutional search and the Iowa possession doctrine. Often times if two or more persons are in possession of a residence and a substance is found within the residence, the State cannot prove who it belonged to (i.e. possessed the substance) and therefore the case needs to be dismissed.
