Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

I attempted to steal a product from wal mart ($50 value) when the security officer rushed me i dropped the merchandise and my cell phone and ran out the store. My friend called my phone and the security guard answered, he told my friend to tell me to come back to the store. What should I do, what type of punishment can I get?

It sounds like they know who you are so charges are likely whether you cooperate or not. If you cooperate, the outcome is likely to be better than if you just ignore them. Theft of $50 is a simple misdemeanor. Most people either get a fine or a deferred judgment if there is no prior criminal history.
