Do I need to get an attorney to request a diversion in court?

Maybe but your zip code suggests you're in Chicago. I'd suggest contacting an Illinois lawyer unless you're jammed up in Iowa. If by "diversion" you mean "no permanent record" I'd have to know what you've been charged with and where.
