Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

What is the average punishment for failure to appear. the court hearing missed was an initial appearance on a probation revokation. thank u

I just went through this with a client. The least you can expect is some jail time for contempt. At most they'll revoke your probation and impose the original sentence.

It depends upon the cirumstances, whether you have missed court before, why they are filing a report of violations, the seriousness of the underlying circumstances, etc. If you missed a court date for a probation hearing, usually the best thing to do is immediately contact your probation officer. Often times if you are willing to turn yourself in and/or have a valid reason for missing the court date, they will just release you upon your promise to appear at a rescheduled date.
