The best answer I can give is this: it depends. There are so many factors that are involved in determining an appropriate resolution of acts by children. These cases begin with an investigation by the authorities and an initial intake by a juvenile court officer. After that, they will sit down and decide what they believe is the best course of action, which involves a wide range options, from doing absolutely nothing to a custodial placement of the child to age 18 or beyond. It can involve the court system or it can be handled entirely outside of court. If this is your child I would recommend you contact an attorney and fully discuss this matter.
