Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

A few days ago my father went through trial and was accused of three sexual accounts before i ask my question i want you to know the witnesses all lied on the stand under oath I know this because it was my sisters children and herself. She is a half sister. Not my fathers daughter.

My question if the prosecutor at jury pick was saying my father was a sex offender or a child molester before he was even convicted is that not grounds itself for retrial. I have many people in the family asking this question please help asap

It depends. There are many factors to consider. Did your father have an attorney representing him at trial? Did that attorney have a strategic reason for either objecting or not objecting to the prosecutors statements? If your father was convicted, he is entitled to file a motion for a new trial, then he can file an appeal, and if he loses the appeal he can file an application for post conviction relief. Perhaps this is one of the issues than can be evaluated.
