Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
domestic abuse
Can you become a certified nurse having a domestic abuse that was a serious mistameaner. Although never actually went through a trail. Just took a plea bargain because no contact order was broken and I was pregnant and wanted less time in jail. Should've been self-defense. Very embarrassing. Thank you!

Re: domestic abuse
Your question about licensure is governed by Iowa Administrative Code chapter 655 and Iowa Code sec. 147.3 and 152.7.
According to these sections one may be denied a nursing license for a criminal conviction only if it is a felony that relates to the profession. A person with a felony needs board approval however. It would be wise to contact the nursing board and find out from them if there is anything else they require, particularly on your initial application.
