Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
Two drug task cops showed up saying they had my fianc� and I on audio. They said cooperate or they'd get a search warrant. Frantic we said cooperate because of the children. They said no charges have been made on us but my fianc� dumbly panicked said he cooked 3 times. They want us to wear a wire. I said I would want a lawyer since charges have not been made. The cop is texting me saying since he hasn't heard nothing from the one attorney we got free legal advice from that cancelled the meeting with the cops that he would press charges. All because I said I was advised not to slam with him until I had a lawyer present. What should I do?! The attorney that he is speaking of can't afford and is in Mexico for the week.

Hire another lawyer. You're not entitled to a court appointed lawyer unless you've been charged with something. I have to wonder why this is happening with children in the home. My guess? You'll be hearing from DHS.
