Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

exsponging a wrong charge

I broke a window to enter into my girlfriend's home. I lived there with her, but was not on the lease.

I was charged with burgary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass. This charge is causing me to be under employed. And stopping me from finding employment that can help me to support myself correctly.

I have a letter from my ex-girl friend stated that I did her no harm, and that I repaired the broken window.

I need to know how I can get hte charge exsponged from my record, or reduced to a lesser charge.

Re: expungment

You did not say whether you have been convicted or not and whether it was a juvenile offense. If you have been convicted you can negotiate a deferred judgment which allows you to petition for expungment of the records if you complete probation. If you merely pled guilty or were convicted and no deferred judgment was granted and you're not a juvenile, there is no procedure under Iowa law to expunge records of a criminal conviction.
