Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
Able to fly with an active arrest warrant?
I just found out today that I have an arrest warrant against me in Iowa. I am going on vacation in 3 days and will be flying out of an airport in Nebraska, traveling to Las Vegas. I haven't been able to find out exactly what the warrant is for-the police station and Clerk of Court told me they can't tell me what it's for over the phone-only in person--but I think the warrant is for a ''driving while license revoked'' ticket I received in 5/2005. I was ordered to serve 7 days in jail for the ticket, which I haven't been able to complete yet due to medical problems from a job-related injury. I am wondering if I am still able to fly with an active arrest warrant, or is there any type of security checks at the airport that would cause me to be arrested because of the warrant? Also, I was told by the police station and the County Attorney's office that the ONLY way to resolve the warrant was to turn myself in and go to jail. Is there any other way to get the warrant lifted so I don't get arrested while on vacation?

Re: Able to fly with an active arrest warrant?
The short answer is, you fly at your own risk. It's important to take these things seriously. You can understand that a court will be skeptical of your ability to take a vacation in Las Vegas instead of their jail.
