Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

I have a friend that was arrested with a public intoxication charge. The only identification he had on him was a fake id ( a driver's license), and the police department booked him under the information on his fake id. He doesn't know the person who the fake identification actually belongs to, it was given to him by a mutual friend. He was released from jail the next day, and it's a week later and he still hasn't told law enforcement that the fake identification wasn't his. What's going to happen once they find out? What kind of charges would he face?

That was a very foolish thing to do. What your friend did was take a simple offense and turn it into a huge mess, not the least problem of which is its potential effect on the other fellow's record.

What he needs to do now, not tomorrow, is hire an attorney and try to make this right.
