Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
Thank god for the parole officer: If it was not for my fathers parole officer we would not know he has to go to court tomorrow. His defense lawyer did not send us anything in writing or a phone call to let us know. If it was not for his parole officer calling him he would be in contempt of court. And possibly arrested. In the past he always sent us the court documents. Is it typical to do it this way?

You haven't given me enough information about your situation. If a person is in court for some reason they are always told when their next court date is, and handed an order to that effect.
