Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
Getting the hold off my license
I have a hold on my license from Guthrie Co. Iowa. I have paid off all other state, county and dept. of motor vehicles fines except for in Guthrie Co. I owe over 2,000 dollars to them still and have been faithfully making payments to them every month. I need my license badly...2 children living 30 min away, etc... I know other people who have set up the same type of payment arrangements with the courts as I have and the ,''hold'', was taken off of their license by simply speaking with the people in the clerk of courts office. I spoke with the clerk at the Guthrie Co. court house and was told that I would have to hire legal council to go to the judge on my behalf to see about getting the hold taken off.
My fines are not driving related and the suspension period has passed as per the courts suggestion. Am I being mislead? Is there a simpler way of getting this privilege restored? Please help.
