Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

My husband was sent to prison in 2003...he was released 6/10...I divorced him 2004-5...At the time he was incarcerated 7/2003 he was recieivng unemployment benefits...he asked me to continue these to help with bills and support our 2 children until I could figure out what to do (I think it was 1-2 months-telephonically)...upon his release from prison 6/10 I told him of me wanting to get some child support for our boys and requesting so through the court... he is saying if I do then he will press charges on me for recieving his unemployment benefits and say I didn't have his permission...he's bullying me and I need to know if can do this?...He says his lawyer is free since he's a felon and I will have to pay out more then I can ever afford...I just want help with our boys.....HELP?!

Get yourself an attorney and build a wall between you and this person.. What you describe is defined as a fraudulent practice. Depending on the amount of money involved it could be a misdemeanor or felony but either way the statute of limitations is three years. He is not entitled to free representation because he's a convict.
