Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

Illegal Weapons

My 13 year old son is interested in collecting various types of weapons, such a brass knuckles, switch blade knife and other types of knives. I have no idea what is legal for him to collect and what is not. He has a tendency to take them from the house to show off.

Introspection needed, not a lawyer

Mom, your child is 13 years old. He has no earthly moral, ethical, legal reason to want brass knuckles or a switch blade knife or any other kind of knife. He might like to show off, but to show off with these dangerous weapons should set off a bank of warning/stop signals.I would be more concerned also about learning why he wants these weapons. Does he have any pent-up anger? is a question you should be asking. I think a visit to a clinical psychologist (not a social worker) is the appropriate route to follow. Learn about your child. Learn who he is. Certainly don't give him the weapons. If you do, onlya criminal atty would be of any assistance to you.

Teenager's weapons collection

Unless he has his collection firmly mountedin an enclosed case (preferably of 1/4" plexi-glass), he should not be taking his "collection"out of the house. He really should not showitems in his collection to friends or ac-quaintances until it is permanently mountedin a display case, and then, perhaps, onlyat the public library or police station.
