Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

i am from iowa and was charged with 3rd degree harassment for calling my exgirlfriends 13 yr old daughter a bitch.i recently broke up with ex and have been calling her to get the rest of my property from her house with no prvail. so as i was driving by her house i seen her daughter and her getting out of the car so i pulled to the curb and rolled my window down asking my ex to please call me so i can get my stuff right then her daughter started laughing and saying something like your not getting anything back this made me mad and in the heat of the moment i said stay out of it you little bitch and drove off when i got home the cops were there to serve me with a citation i couldnt believe this i admited to the cop exactly what i told you i went to court and the judge told me that since it was a non jailable offense i had to hire an attorney or defend myself no public defender well i am going through a lay off and no money to hir lawyer or pay fine if guilty any help would be great i wasnt threatening or trying to alarm thanks
