What kind of punishment do I face?

I was walking back to my room, when a Drake campus security guard approached me, I showed him my identification and he became agitated so I took my ID and ran without touching him. He proceeds to tackle me and detain me until the police arrive. I am charged with simple assault and public drunkenness. I havent had any experience with this before, so what kind of punishment am I likely to face, and is it worth it to hire a lawyer?

Both are simple misdemeanors which are punishable by a fine, surcharge and court costs. Without a careful examination of the charges I can't say what the fine would be but there is the possibility of jail time on simple misdemeanors. If you want a chance to maintain a clean record I strongly urge you to consult a local lawyer. The issue of convictions could give you problems down the road if you need a professional license in your career. I live in the Drake neighborhood.
