Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

Trying to locate an attorney for my sister

my sister took a plea that was suggested by her public defender. we have since figured this was not in her best interest. we do not have money for anything but a public defender. we have been told that another polk county public defender can not assist due to conflict of interest. will this be the case for all polk county, iowa public defenders? the problem is the fact my sister did not do what she has been accused of and she should not have taken the plea. She has released the public defender she had.

Re: Trying to locate an attorney for my sister

If you are in need of court appointed counsel, in Polk County the court is always required to first appoint the public defender's office. If they have a conflict, then the court will appoint a local private attorney to represent your sister. This request for another attorney should be done immediately, as there are time deadlines for filing motions to withdraw her plea or for ineffective assistance of counsel.
