Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

Misuse of I.D. to Acquire Alcohol

On 7/30/05 I was cited for unlawful use of license, alcohol involved. Specifically, I was attempting to gain entry into a night club as a minor (age 20). The bouncer took my license and called the police. I was questioned by police whether I had been drinking previously and I responded honestly that I had one shot at another night club. I was not in possession of alcohol at the time I was confronted. I was with two girlfriends also minors who entered the nightclub ahead of me when I got detained. I was unable to attend my court hearing in October 05 because of distance and school so I pleaded guilty to the charges of MIP and unlawful use of license and paid two large fines. I have never been in trouble with the law in my life. I'm a good person but made a stupid error in judgement. I am a full-time student and work hard for good grades and also work after classes to pay for my living expenses. My question: Yesterday I tried to renew my Nebraska drivers license and they said I couldn't because Iowa has a hold on it. I turn 21 next week. What recourse do I have so that I can obtain my license? I need it for work and I will need it in May as I go to Denver looking at schools. Can you help me please!! Thank you.

You will have to do battle with the Iowa DOT as it appears that your license was administratively suspended. The period of suspension may have already run but there are things you will need to do to get your license reinstated or get the hold lifted. Their phone number is 515dash244dash8725
