Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
Statue of limitation on rape.
My sister is 36 when she was 14 she was raped by a 19 year old. (I think many times.) She never told my parents til recently. Is there a time limit on rape cases? Any advise. My mother feels like this rape ''just'' happened and she is so upset. It has been 22 years. Any suggestions?

Re: Statue of limitation on rape.
Unfortunately when a child is sexually abused the statute of limitations runs out ten years after the child turns 18. That means the clock ran out 8 years ago. However, if she did report it timely (as sometimes happens) and an arrest warrant for the perpetrator was issued and he absconded, that would toll the statute of limitations.
