Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
I stole under fifty dollars worth of alcohol from walmart and was charged with theft in the 5th degree, a misdemeanor in Iowa. I am 18 and a college student. The police officer who stopped me said that it would probably just result in a $100 fine, but I take that with a grain of salt. What are the potential penalties for shoplifting alcohol? What are the likely penalties? Is this kind of thing expungable?
Thanks for your time,
Wil

Theft can not be expunged. If you are convicted it will be on your record. You should consult with an attorney about your particular situation and the likely outcome. The maximum sentence is 30 days in jail and a fine.
