Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
theft by deception
A friend of mine was on a bender and began writing bad checks. The amount is most likely between $1000 and 2000. He is going into detox. What is the best way to deal with this so that he can hopefully avoid jail? He is unemployeed and has applied for Social security benefits as he was injured over a year ago. It is in appeal now.

You haven't really told me enough about the situation to give you an answer you can use. He does need legal representation because this is a serious charge.
