Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa
Theft 5th degree-
I live in Iowa and I was charged with shoplifting ($5.45) of food items from a grocery store. This is my first offense and I have no criminal background. My court date is set within the next month. I haven't seeked legal advise, and I'm wondering if it's worth my time. I'm afraid that the judge will not be in my favor if i lawyer everything up. I know what I did was unlawful, but I don't want this simple misdemeanor to ruin the rest of the my life and career.

If you want to mitigate the effects you can take your chances or get an attorney and ask for a deferred judgment.
