Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

Threat from an individual
I have a relatioship with a girl who has an ex-boyfreind who has stalked her, disconnected h er distribitor in a car she shared with him, threatened me 3 times with physical violence, come to my home at all hours of the night and sat in the street, verbally and physically assualted the girl, evicted her from their joint home, and then tells her he wants her back, committed her to a substance abuse center by talking her mothers boyfreind into signing a petition and other things. A serious question, but what is my re-course here, a restraining order? The police have been called a couple times, but he is a manipulative bastard and has not gotten into trouble. I would appreciate some advice

You can go see if a court will issue a restraining order but from what you're telling me he's likely to ignore it.
