Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

Todd miler answered my last question about the bail bond, we we just found out that the pre trial now will be this thursday. We feel that our defence lawyer only gave him one choice to take this plea or find a new lawyer in stead of his rights to take it to trial. We feel that his lawyer is in fault of coersion not only that anytime we try to talk to him about the case he says he don't want to hear it. So my question is this: Do we go to the trial speak to the judge tell him about this and ask for a court appointed attorney ? We feel we need to take this to trial and that the state don't have enough evidence and they are wanting to plea bargan to save their reputation and not lose a case.

Anytime someone is not happy with their lawyer I always advise them to do everything they can to try to work it out with the lawyer. Once that has been attempted, if there is no possibility that the attorney-client relationship can be maintained, only then would I advise them to seek another attorney. If you have a court-appointed attorney and would be seeking a different court-appointed attorney, you could file a document with the Clerk of Court which indicates that you need to have a different attorney appointed for you. In the alternative, your attorney could file a motion to withdraw if you request that he do so. The Court should then act on that request.
