Can a trial date be postponed until I have someone to represent me?

Usually, unless you are asking to postpone the trial very late in the process or you are not willing to waive your right to a speedy trial. It is always up the the judge in his/her discretion and sometimes they are not willing to postpone the trial if it is prejudicial to the state. I'd suggest you contact an attorney immediately.
