what is the usual sentence for wilfull injury in the state of iowa

There are two levels of wilfull injury. The Class C felony is a mandatory prison sentence of no more than 10 years. The Class D felony is not mandatory prison, but if a prison sentence is imposed it is of no more than 5 years.

Wilful injury is a class C or a Class D felony. A C is punishable by up to 10 years' imprisonment and a D is punishable by up to five years imprisonment. In addition there are enhancements for habitual offenders.
