Any money you were ordered to pay in a criminal case as part of sentencing is considered due on the day of sentencing. Most people are not able to pay that day, and typically those amounts are then turned over to the Iowa Department of Revenue, who then adds penalties and interest. They can also suspend your driver's license, take any money coming back to you as a tax return, and so on. The judge can also find you in contempt of court and order you to serve jail time if it isn't paid in a timely manner. If you are on probation you can be arrested and your original sentence imposed. I have seen judges order garnishment of wages in some cases. Victim restitution is the first thing that is paid from any money you send in, and fines, court costs, attorney's fees are secondary. If you haven't paid the amount owed for victim restitution and some time has passed, you could be facing a litany of issues as detailed above.
