Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

I was just written a ticket in Ames, Iowa for public urination when I wasn't urinating. I was the designated driver and had not been drinking, and I had just went to the bathroom inside. My friend didn't want to wait, and started to urinate in an alley outside. I went up beside him, and two cops came in and wrote us both tickets for public urination. I have never been in trouble with the law, and am basically just really confused what to do. It's a $135 ticket, and I'm not sure if I should just pay it or fight it. I also didn't know if I need to get an attorney, or if I could just fight it myself. On top of that, I don't know what my options are completely either, I heard you could request something about not committing the crime for 3 years and it will be erased?

What you heard about getting the record erased is not true. That only applies to minor in possession charges. Get yourself an attorney.
