Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Iowa
does boss have the right to fire me?
I started a job as a donut maker at a local gas station. I was told to just watch the first day to get the feel of things. The second day that I had to work....I did all the work. I was being trained by a young girl and I was told I had to do all the work. So I did....with only having one day of training. I was told that day that it wasn't very busy so I could go home. I was later called by my boss and told that all I did was stand around and that she had told the girl that was training me that she was to send me home had I not done my job. I did do my job though. I worked my butt off and I got fired because the girl lied to my boss. Is there anything I can do to get my job back? Did she have a liable reason to fire me?

Re: does boss have the right to fire me?
If you live in Arizona, your boss really doesn't need a particular type of reason to fire you - if he feels it's not working out for any reason, he can let you go. If you suspect you were let go because of age, race, gender, religion, etc, then you may have a discrimination matter on your hands, but from what you've described, these issues weren't present.
You may wish to handle this situation in a non-legal way by writing a letter to your boss, expressing your strong desire to work and your willingness to learn. Ask for an explanation of what you could have done differently, and ask that he come in and spend some time watching you himself. He may be so impressed with your desire to work that he'll rehire you. Good luck!
