Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Iowa

waive rights

I was recently terminated from my position at a bank. In order to receive severance pay, I am being asked to waive all claims regarding discrimination, especially age. Is this legal and binding?

Re: waive rights

Uncer certain conditions it could be. Unless you have an agreement, they do not necessarily have to give you severance pay.

If you think you have a valid claim regarding age discrimination you owe it to yourself to investigate it in depth before you waive any claims you might have. I'd suggest you consult with an attorney versed in discrimination law before you give up this right.

And yes, it's a cheesy thing for your former employer to do.
