Legal Question in DUI Law in Iowa

I have two collection agencies that have filed papers seeking judgements to collect a debt from me. In 2007, my then husband was using credit cards in my name without my permission or knowledge for gambling. We were divorced in Jan. 2008 and these debts were assigned to him by the judge in the divorce. In Feb. 2008, he filed bankruptcy and these debts were included. Can these collection agencies now legally come after me for these debts. If so, what are my options and what would be a reasonable attorney fee to defend me.

If those credit cards were joint credit accounts the answer is yes, the creditors can attempt to collect from you. Your options are limited to either hiring an attorney to defend these actions or a bankruptcy filing yourself. You haven't said how much money is involved or whether they've actually filed suit and served you but I can tell you that you only have 20 days to file an answer in court. You may be able to get a free consult from an attorney in your area but the usual and customary rate for attorneys is anywhere from $100 to $300 per hour.
