Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

50/50 legal and physical custody

My former spouse and I are in the midst of a custody battle for our 2-year old daughter. I think it is best for our daughter to have joint custody- 50/50 physical and legal custody. She wants complete control over all custody rights and legal responsibilities. The environment that would put our daughter is not a stable one- her whole family uses foul language that my daughter picks up on and they all encourage very codependent behavior amongst themselves. If she states that she does not want me to have joint legal custody and only joint physical custody, is there any way that I can ask for an evaluation as a parent? I am not by any means a bad father- I don't have any bad habits and I have a higher income job than her mother and I live in a more stable household. My ex has gotten everything in the divorce- the house, the car, our shared bank account, all the furniture and appliances... all I am asking for is joint physical and legal custody of our daughter. What are my options? Thank you in advance for your expertise. Any information you can offer is greatly appreciated.

The options you have are a fight or capitulation. I certainly hope you're retained competent counsel and are not trying to wing it on your own, because you need somebody in your corner.
