Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
2 years ago my wife and I split up for about 2 months. A month after we split up I slept with another woman one time and we never spoke again. Here I am 2 years later and I recieved a letter in the mail saying I am being sued for child support because that girl had a baby.I do believe that girl got around a little, so I am not exactly sure if it is mine. Worst of all my wife is the one who got the mail today and she opened my letter and read it before I did. I haven't actually read it yet my wife had a "talk" with me about it. She is obviously furious. I am just wanting to know what my options are and what my obligations are. I feel like I am in a nightmare. I have 2 kids with my wife. I feel sooo horrible right now. Any info in the matter will be most appreciated. Thank You.

It's pretty simple stuff. If the child is yours, you've got 18 years of child support to pay. If not, you're off the hook. I suggest you contact an attorney to explore your alternative courses of action and request a paternity test. As far as the fallout from your excursion, that's something that you'll have to work out between your family and yourself. Counseling might be useful.
