Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

I would like to adopt my girlfriends daughter. She is 12. Her Mom and biological father were never married. He is currently in prison for doing bad things with children we will say. He will not get out until she is 27. I have been there for the child for the last 7 years. We are fairly sure he would sign away rights. Would this be possible?

I think you'd have to get him to consent to termination of his parental rights and that would require a legal proceeding under Chapter 600 I think. You need an attorney to handle it for you.
