Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

I can't afford a lawyer. A court date has been set and the other party wants a continuance. I want to go to court and get things over with. How do i go about this without a lawyer. Can I contact the other parties lawyer and tell him I want to go ahead with the court date?

If the attorney has filed a motion to continue you can resist it, but your resistance should be a little more principled than "I just want to get this over with."
