Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Change of custody arrangements and child support.

My ex-husband has custody of our 2 children. I pay child support for both. My 16 yr old daughter has moved in with me permanently. My ex-husband is not contesting the move. How can I change custody and child support arrangements in court without a lawyer?

Re: Change of custody arrangements and child support.

I do not practice in your state and I am not familiar with its statutes. Where I practice, the parties can file a stipulation (agreement) that 16 year old now resides with you full time, father has transferred physical custody to mother, and child support should be recalculated by your child support enforcement division to reflect the change. Both parents sign it and date it. File it with the clerk of the district court. In my district, I would also give the clerk an order for the judge to sign reflecting your stipulation and saying that the court adopts the parties' stipulation.
