Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Child custody

My childrens father lost custody of my kids to me in an order of protection I filed in 2007 the order is getting ready to expire in Illinois. I have lived in Iowa with the kids for 17mths and I recently got a job in D.C. Can I get in trouble for taking the kids with me and Can he come take them from me?

If it's in violation of the existing custody and support agreement, you are asking for problems. It also depends on the nature of the custody order. Most are joint custody with physical custody in one or the other these days so you cannot act as if the other person doesn't exist.
