Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

child is 15 and wants to live with mother

My 15 year old stepson wishes to come live with his mother and I. His father said ok but then changed his mind and refuses to bring him back to us or let us see him or talk to him on the phone. The man is NOT the biological father of the child. What do we do to get custody of the child? We cannot afford a lawyer and make to much to get help from ''legal-aid''.

You've got to file for a modification of custody. You're going to have to show a lot more than the child doesn't like it at home. Whether the custodial parent is biodad or not doesn't matter.
