Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Child Support from Father /Can I sue from court?

Father is in Iowa, and I'm in Florida. Had wages garnished for child support owed in Iowa for son that was adopted by my mother. Father did not pay any, and I want to know if I have the legal right to take him to court for his half. Even though at the adoption hearing he said he didn't want to pay child support. Any statue of limitations on time or geography?

Re: Child Support from Father /Can I sue from court?

Based on our understanding of the information provided, you are advised that generally there is no statutory limitation on recovering support from a parent obligated to pay support. It is not clear that the father has an obligation since you indicated the child was adopted by the grandmother. The court order granting the adoption should indicated support obligations of the father, if any. Usually, the parent that consents to adoption is released from child support obligations. If you cannot understand the relevant orders, you are advised to consult with a family law attorney.
