Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Child support in Iowa both families moved out of state

I would like to have my child support evaluated but not sure where to start. I live in Arizona my spouse moved to Missouri and the original divorce and all child support go through Iowa courts. I am having a difficult time financially and it has been at least 6 years since my spouses child support has been evaluated. I have looked at the guidelines and believe the support allowance would double. Can I file myself thru Iowa? Am I better off finding a lawyer? In Iowa or Arizona? Can he bring up any other issues such as visitation or custody if I file for an increase in child support? Thank You

Well, the first thing you need to do is get an Iowa attorney.....you may file for a modification of the support order. If you have physical custody of the children you may be able to get a change of venue to AZ and that would make things easier.

You can expect that he will raise all the old stuff, and you should evaluate if it is better not to kick a sleeping dog....but if there has been a substantial change in circumstances that justifies a change in the level of support the courts will grant it.....you already know about the child support guidelines so that's good....what county was your divorce in?
